Are you often late? Is it hard to admit your weakness for the 10th cookie or for the 7th glass of wine? Are you a procrastinator? Is your office always a mess?
We all have flaws, but sometimes, from an extreme sense of guilt, we criticize ourselves and we tend to tear ourselves down. It never helps. Don’t be hard on yourself and don’t beat yourself up! Try to focus more on the good things and feelings. Water what you want to grow and don’t feed the weeds. Stop being your worst enemy by criticizing yourself.
Instead, whenever you feel like you are not good enough, think about the things you are good at and appreciate your unique qualities. Make a list and write down all your accomplishments, talents and experiences.
Maybe you are good at fishing (even if you only went fishing once), or maybe you make some amazing sandwiches. Maybe you have a few (or more) trustworthy friends you can count on. Maybe you have a lean and healthy body, or you are a good listener. Maybe you have a caring or creative nature. Maybe you have a blog where you express your feelings regularly and with it, a great network of fellow bloggers. Visit this list as often as you can and you will suddenly feel special.
As for your flaws… Acknowledge them (one by one), try to understand what caused them, promise yourself you’ll correct them, act accordingly, and move on. Then, focus on building your strengths.
Celebrate your uniqueness and never stop exploring, learning and growing!
