I’ve been thinking about creating a Monthly Celebration series (and sharing it with you) for a while now. For me, it is just another way of looking back at my accomplishments, tracking my growth process -with wins and looses- and taking a mindful, better look at my life as it passes by. It is a way of tracking the process of reaching my goals while documenting each month’s highlights.
Besides, I’m sure I’m going to enjoy the process of training my brain to regularly focus on the best parts of each month and move forward with more clarity and comfort. I want to be even more present and more mindful of what is happening around me. I want to be more aware about my feelings, about my body and my habits. At the end of each month, I want to be able to look back at what I’ve achieved that month and easily identify the gifts in my life, so they don’t seem like simple, fleeting moments.
I will just set a reminder at the beginning of each month and look back at my experiences and work I got done, goals I accomplished, big or small life events, things I’ve learned, and hopes and wishes for the future. It can be anything: a trip, a meeting with friends, a new recipe, a good movie, an interesting article, or a good book.
Now let’s get into my monthly highlights:
1. Growing my blog
If you’ve poked around my blog lately you might have noticed that I have changed my theme and my blog is now self-hosted. I’m in love with my new theme and I would love to grow my blog and explore other opportunities. It is still a work in progress and all these changes challenged me from the beginning and forced me to step out of my comfort zone. I know I have a long way and many trials ahead, but at the same time I enjoy the feeling of knowing that I am one step ahead of where I was yesterday, and the excitement that wakes me up at 6am on the weekends. I am truly enjoying the process and I am feeling so proud for every task I check off my to-do list.
2. Time with my family
Well, some of you probably know by now that family is the most important thing for me. I am so happy and grateful that I was able to spend the last several months with my parents who visited from Europe. My hubby and I took them to places they wanted to see, spend a lot of time at the beach, cooked together, went to the rodeo, and celebrated every day together. I am so grateful that we got to spend all that time together.
3. Inspirational Harvard Commencement Speech – Natalie Portman
I was inspired by Natalie Portman Harvard Commencement Speech on You Tube. She mentioned her role in “Black Swan’ for which she won an Oscar in 2010 and admitted that she lied about her experience as a ballerina. She told the director that she was “basically a professional” ballerina. “The point is, if I had known my own limitations, I never would have taken the risk, and the risk led to one of my greatest personal and professional achievements,” said Portman. She also said: “The most fulfilling things I’ve experienced have truly been the human interactions.”
4. Meditation App
Calm is a free meditation app for the web, iPhone and Android. You can select your favorite background scenery and sound, set a timer and enjoy your few moments of bliss. Their background sceneries are beautiful; I prefer the Mountain Lake with its sound even when I don’t meditate – I simply use it as a background noise when I write or work on my blog . It’s beautiful – so serene and refreshing!
These are some of the best parts of the month that just ended. Overall, March was a great month for me – I felt happy and accomplished.
What are some of your highlights from the past month? Was March a good month for you? What made you smile? What made you happy?
