There are so many things that come to mind when I take a moment and look back at the past year… There are things I accomplished, setbacks, surprises, and events – small and big. There are challenges and things that forced myself to step outside my comfort zone and sunny days filled with overjoyed celebration. I know.
But in the bigger scheme, looking back at the past year, I would like to know more. Right now, If someone asked me to write down a list of the last year highlights, I know it would take me a while to do it. I would like to be easier for me to remember the nicest days and the things that made me happy. 2015 was a good year, but I have a feeling in my belly that 2016 is going to be outstanding!
So I want to train my brain to regularly focus on finding the good. I want to ask from myself to be even more present and more mindful of what is happening around me. I want to be more aware about my feelings, about my body and my habits. I am not the one writing down long lists of resolutions promising a better life and a better self, but for me, the guiding word for this year is mindfulness. I am confident that this word can create a longer lasting change than any list of New Year resolutions.
I already keep a gratitude journal, writing down 3 things I am grateful for each day. This year, I would like to also identify and write down the highlights of each week and each month, so that at the end of 2016 to be able to look back and know exactly what each week and each month brought to me. Besides, I am sure I am going to love looking for a highlight each week and each month, and every event and every moment – no matter how small – will become even more meaningful. Writing them down will make them better stick to my memory.
So from now on, I want to train my brain to regularly look for the best parts of my weeks and of my months. It can be anything: a trip, a meeting with friends, a new recipe, a good movie, an interesting article, finishing a good book, learning something new, or buying a new planner. At the end of every month I want to be able to look back at what I’ve achieved for that month so that I can keep track of the progress I made, and to easily identify the gifts in my life.
“Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.”
Wishing you all a day filled with sunshine and joy!
