I just came back from a nice vacation, a cruise from Vancouver to LA, and I spent two days visiting Vancouver area and two days visiting LA. I enjoyed every second.
But I love being back to my routine because I am a creature of habits. I enjoy being away for a few days, but after a few hours I miss my home and my routine. I need habits and structure, and I need a routine. I feel comfortable following my routine, and nothing is unpredictable in my schedule. I love being organized; it keeps me neat, disciplined, and productive. I love the sense of knowing that my day unfolds as planned.
I remember how excited I was while planning for the cruise – 10 days with my hubby, our first vacation as empty nesters, doing whatever we wanted to do and spending all the time we had with each other. We visited famous places we only saw in the movies: Malibu Beach, Rodeo Drive, Venice beach, Beverly Hills, Griffith Observatory, the Walk of Fame and Kodak Theater. We did something else than our daily routine. It was great for a while, but I definitely missed two things: our son and the comfort of my house.
Missing my son may sound strange knowing that he is 20 years old, but living in a country where we don’t have any relatives made us grow closer as a family and more supportive of one another.
Then, I missed my house. When we returned, the second I opened the entrance door and stepped inside, I felt the very familiar smell of my house, the warm feeling of affection and happiness. I realized I was missing the brightness of the house, the light, the green view from the living room to my luscious backyard. I was missing the sparkling reflection of the sunlight on the lake behind my house and I was missing the feeling of goodness, wellness and safeness.
I am now home, going back to my routine little by little. I am grateful for being able to go on such a nice cruise, and at the same time, I am grateful for having a home that I miss while I travel. I can’t wait to get back into my writing routine, to write new posts and to share with you some of the pictures I took on my trip.
Do you love being back to your routine?
